While there has been increased dialogue and campus-wide discussions on AI ethics, conversation is lacking on the implications of this on vulnerable populations in the Global South, as well as AI Ethics discussions led by Afro-Brazilians. The goal of this speaker series, lead by Information Sciences doctoral student Kainen Bell, is to fill these gaps and create an interdisciplinary campus-wide dialogue between students, faculty, staff, and community members around emerging topics of AI discrimination, surveillance, and ethics in the Global South. This series is co-sponsored by the Lemann Center for Brazilian Studies.
The first event in this series is a lecture from Dr. Bianca Kremer from Rio De Janeiro on Facial Recognition Technologies in the Brazilian Public Sector: Between Regulation and Racial Discrimination. This hybrid event will be on February 13, 2024 from 12-1 PM.
