The rise of ISIS in Syria and Iraq is an example of how religious resistance to the spread of democratic values and religious tolerance has increasingly turned violent. Mark Juergensmeyer reported on his recent interviews with ISIS refugees in Iraq and address the clash of values motivating this and other religious challenges to the secular state.
