Biography
Zach Petrea is a Professor of English and the Study Abroad Coordinator at Heartland Community College in Bloomington, Illinois. In his 17 years at Heartland Community College he has advocated for program development and assessment through roles as Chair of the Curriculum Committee, Writing Program Coordinator, and Dual Credit Coordinator for the Liberal Arts & Social Sciences.These experiences have been brought to bear on his recent professional work in advocating for student access to international education through his roles as Study Abroad Coordinator and Co-Chair of the Committee for Global
Education. He teaches classes including Composition, Introduction to Literature, Film & Literature, and Banned & Burned Literature.
Research Interests
For the 2021 International Studies Research Lab at UIUC, Mr. Petrea is created a syllabus for a new course called "Global Journeys & Rites of Passage through Africa, the Middle East, and India". The course compares coming-of-age stories from India, the Middle East, and Africa.
For the 2022 International Studies Research Lab, Mr. Petra plans to research how to integrate EDI and Global Competencies assessments into an efficient tool and create a College-wide assessment plan for Heartland Community College.
