Biography
John W. McCormack is an Associate Professor of Religion and History at Aurora University. He earned his PhD in History from the University of Notre Dame and an MA in Religion from Yale Divinity School. His research interests focus on the intersections of religion with politics and with popular culture, both in the early modern world (1500-1700) and today. He teaches a wide range of courses on European, Latin American, and world history, historical methods, world religions, and contemporary spirituality.
Research Description
For the 2023 ISRL, Dr. McCormack will be developing a course on “Religion in the Americas” which integrates the history of religions in Latin America and the Caribbean into a survey course that has traditionally centered the lives and beliefs of (mostly White) Protestant Christians in the United States.
