Dr. Deisy Anderson is Professor of Spanish at Kankakee Community College in Kankakee, Illinois. She teaches classes including Spanish and Equity, Diversity, Inclusion and Belonging.
For the 2021 International Studies Research Lab at UIUC, Dr. Anderson is examining 7 different types of folkdances through critical social perspectives. The project will highlight West African dance, Egyptian folkdance, Hula, flamenco, Cumbia, traditional Japanese dance, and traditional Indian dance. Through on-campus programming and a 7-part multimedia series, students will experience dance performance practices and learn how they embody the subversion of oppression.
