Research Description

For the 2021 International Studies Research Lab at UIUC, Dr. Anderson examined 7 different types of folkdances through critical social perspectives in her project titled "Introduction to Critical Folkdance Pedagogy: Around the World in 7 Folkdances". This project highlighted West African dance, Egyptian folkdance, Hula, flamenco, Cumbia, traditional Japanese dance, and traditional Indian dance in order to teach students to critical dance pedagogy. Students are encouraged to consider dance as act that can build community, protest injustice, express social roles, and build hope.

For the 2022 ISRL, Dr. Anderson will develop a plan for introducing a Global Certificate program at Kankakee Community College.
