Summer Institute for Languages of the Muslim World
The Summer Institute for Languages of the Muslim World at the University of Illinois does not currently list any plans for closure.
Middlebury Language Schools
According to the Middlebury Language School website, “COVID-19 is an evolving situation which we are monitoring closely. At this time, there are no plans to cancel or postpone Summer Sessions for 2020. We continue to accept applications and enrollments. For Current Updates: http://go.middlebury.edu/covid19.”
University of Indiana Language Workshop
The University of Indiana Language Workshop website lists closures for overseas programs; however, domestic programs are not currently affected and will continue running as planned. There is a designated site for coronavirus updates, which can be found here. The website also states to check its Facebook and Instagram pages for frequent updates.
Wisconsin Intensive Summer Language Institute
According to the Wisconsin Intensive Summer Language Institute website, “Wisconsin Intensive Summer Language Institutes (WISLI) is monitoring the constantly evolving situation with COVID-19. At this time we have not made any decisions regarding the cancellation or alteration to planned programming. Updates will be posted on the WISLI and individual websites, as well as our social media sites. Critical Languages Institute, Arizona State University
According to ASU’s Critical Languages Institute website, “The Critical Languages Institute is taking all necessary precautions to ensure the safety of our students studying in Summer 2020. A team of university officials, including ASU’s Emerging Infectious Disease Committee and Emergency Preparedness Committee, is monitoring the outbreak. To assess risks related to travel, the university uses a number of resources, including governmental agencies, reports from security intelligence providers, professional health and security organizations and more. University updates can be found here. CLI staff are following advice and instructions from university officials regarding the outbreak and are discussing potential contingency plans. Important updates to CLI 2020 programming will be made via email to all current applicants and enrolled students, and posted to this website.”
Summer Language Institute, University of Pittsburgh
Pitt’s Summer Language Institute has changed the dates of its domestic programs. 8-week programs in Arabic, Russian, and Turkish will now take place June 15 – August 7. 6-week programs in Bosnian/Croatian/Serbian, Bulgarian, Czech, Hungarian, Polish, Slovak, and Ukrainian will take place June 29 – August 7. Center for Language Studies at Beloit College
The Center for Language Studies (CLS) at Beloit College website states, “We will be offering VIRTUAL LEARNING intensive summer courses in Chinese, Japanese, and Russian, June 14 – July 31.” Details on the transition to virtual learning are not yet available.
