Surveillance and Society

XVII International Sociological Association World Congress of Sociology Conference July 11-17, 2010 in Gothenburg, Sweden.

There will be two sessions. Session 1, Surveillance and Popular Culture, will analyze overlaps between popular media representations of surveillance and actual surveillance practices. Session 2, Local Manifestations of Global Surveillance, will explore cultural and regional differences in what might be considered to be global surveillance practices.

The Impact of International Accounting Standards on Transparency in Financial Reporting

This talk will address the notion of transparency in accounting, its role in the marketplace, and the stand of the Securities and Exchange Commission on the matter. Additional topics will include the pending conversion from US accounting standards (GAAP) to the international (IFRS) along with a comparative discussion of US accounting (GAAP) and the international (IFRS) and my own views on the perceived benefits and the costs of converting to IFRS.
