"Intersections of Race and Gender" volume has the submission deadline of February 28, 2010.

This volume will explore the multiple points where race and gender intersect across the globe, the range of consequences that meets those intersections, and the dynamics that occur at those intersections. The journal's focus on race and gender recognizes that there are numerous ways in which racialized and gendered identities intersect and that their intersection is often influenced by a variety of other cultural factors. The specialist session S03, "Bottoms-up dynamics in early modern urban politics" at the 10th International Conference on Urban History in Ghent, Belgium is calling for papers focusing on daily practices of influencing the political agenda by broad layers of urban society, such as the administrative tasks carried out by corporations, neighborhoods and parishes; petitioning, local press, pamphlets, direct and daily contact with representatives of the urban government, etc.

XVII International Sociological Association World Congress of Sociology Conference July 11-17, 2010 in Gothenburg, Sweden.

There will be two sessions. Session 1, Surveillance and Popular Culture, will analyze overlaps between popular media representations of surveillance and actual surveillance practices. Session 2, Local Manifestations of Global Surveillance, will explore cultural and regional differences in what might be considered to be global surveillance practices.

The Patriotism of the Expatriates. Diasporas and national consciousness between Europe, the Mediterranean and beyond in the long 19th century.

This conference will be held in two parts: A one day workshop to be held in Nicosia (University of Nicosia) on May 30, 2010 and a two day conference to be held in London (Queen Mary College, University of London) on September 10 and 11, 2010.

Call for papers in issue 2: The journal is looking for full articles (up to 10,000 words) and polemics (short articles up to 5,000 words) for their next issue. If submitting a full article, abstracts must be submitted and if the abstract is chosen for publishing, the full manuscript must be submitted before December 1, 2009.
