Throughout the year, the Center for Global Studies organizes and collaborates on a wide variety of activities for faculty and students in higher education, K-12 educators and students, and the general public. These programs are designed to facilitate understanding of global issues that confront the world’s populations today.

  • Global Studies Summer Workshop for High School Students
The Center for Global Studies is sponsoring three pre-college programs that will take place during the Summer of 2016: Sustainable Futures (June 5-10), Global Health (June 12-17), and Intensive Arabic (June 12-June 25).  These courses are taught by University of Illinois Faculty and all students will receive transferable UIUC credit upon successful completion of their program. • Summer Institute for the Languages of the Muslim World
The Department of Linguistics at the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign hosts this immersive summer language institute. The summer institute offers intensive courses in a variety of Muslim world languages, including Arabic, Urdu, Persian, Swahili, Turkish, Uzbek, and Wolof. The registration deadline for the Summer Institute is April 30.
  • Bridging Cultures Initiative
The Bridging Cultures program, a joint initiative of the Center for Global Studies and the Illinois-Northwestern African Studies Consortium, consists of cross-cultural, international programming on educational practice, pedagogy, and policy. Moving beyond the academic and theoretical of most teacher workshops, Bridging Cultures provides teachers with real-world comparative approaches. Workshops and other sessions are held jointly with a cohort of visiting international secondary educators from the Global Institute for Secondary Educators– a U.S. Department of State program held annually at the University of Illinois.  The 2016 Bridging Cultures program will be announced soon.
  • Undergraduate International and Area Studies Research Workshop
